You lost me when you described January 6 as a peaceful protest spoiled by a few bad apples who invaded the Capitol and threatened to hang the VP for the crime of following the Constitution to affirm a free election certified by all 50 states. Have you not heard any of the widely televised testimony from Trump’s insiders who turned against him. If you had, you would know that this was NOT a “peaceful, spontaneous protest spoiled by a few hooligans,”. but a deliberate plot to launch a fascist coup d’etat overthrowing democracy. Also, you completely exaggerate the power of mass protest to change anything at all. For example, millions of people all over the planet launched one of the biggest protests in history against Bush’s planned invasion of Iraq, and our bought-out corporate media largely ignored it. To be effective, any protest needs to be clear in its demands, disciplined, and targeted towards those with the decision-making authority for the issue in question. Otherwise, mass protests of “the system” are a waste of time and, if violence breaks out at all, they can be hijacked by the opposition as a pretext to demonize the protesters and everyone else who sympathizes with them.
