You miss the point. This was not about "family values" nor the "Christian tradition." It was about the toxic consequences of self-loathing puritan morality, which has nothing to do with either "family values" (whatever THEY are) nor "the Christian Tradition" (which?). The toxic attitudes she describes are as common to Islam as they are to Christianity, but in neither case does this negate the value of these (or any) spiritual traditions, when properly understood as injunctions to "love your neighbor as yourself."
