Your decision to even use the word "woke" when you admit not knowing what it actually means is disingenuous. If you cannot define a term, don't use it! In fact, there is no stable definition of "woke" because it is an empty, nonspecific sneer-word, adopted by right-wing demagogues to ridicule anything they don't like about liberalism.

Also "woke" is a racist dogwhistle, since the term originated as a compliment in African American dialect, referring to those among their peers who were fully aware of the extent to which institutional barriers and derogatory attitudes suffuse their interactions with the dominant culture, in job interviews, shopping, casual conversations, etc.

So I immediately lose respect for any Euro-American author who uses the word "woke" as if it had any real meaning.
