Your diagnosis is, as usual, very accurate. Your prescription, sadly, is a pipedream. "Global social democracy?" Tell me about the Rabbits, George. The prerequisites of democracy are basic security, education, civility, and a common culture of shared ethical assumptions. None of these exist in the real world--or even (any longer, if they ever did) in the US.

In our default mode, without these refinements, we are tribal animals, whether we like it or not, given to demonizing those who differ from us, whether socially, politically, culturally, ethnically, or religiously. Any attempt to create a liveable planet and alleviate human suffering must begin by acknowledging the sources of human suffering in universal ignorance, greed, and fear.

That and you need to let go of the idea of money as if it were something real. It is not; it is an arbitrary arithmetical transform of information about the relative value of commodities. And commodities themselves are often designated by artificial boundaries--just like nation states.

We gain clarity by recognizing the greater value of the other seven forms of capital: material, biological, intellectual, experiential, social, cultural, and spiritual. Even though these other forms cannot be measured by arithmetic, and cannot be traded in a zero-sum game, they are the REAL source of human well being, and can be shared (in a positive sum game) by learning, teaching, healing, and creating--by growing gardens, growing community, and growing awareness. Therein lies, if any, our future.
