Clearcutting of old growth forests leaves open spaces with lots of woody debris which ACCELERATES wildfires by enabling wind-driven firestorms to race across open spaces, hurling red-hot cinders into neighboring forests. Did you know that Paradise, California was surrounded by such clearcuts?
