You’re right. We’re collectively doomed, whether it’s quick and horrible (nuclear holocaust) or slow and excruciating (climate disruption and oil depletion leading to societal collapse and the ensuing orgy of violence and starvation). Take your choice…
So what should we tell our children? (1) Breathe, observe, and let go, since the present is all there is; and (2) grow gardens, grow community, and grow awareness—by learning, teaching, healing, and creating. And maybe—just maybe, a few of the wiser, more resilient, and more compassionate ones will survive long enough to sow the seeds of a Gaian culture in the smoldering ruins of the global market economy—a culture in a symbiotic, rather than parasitic, relationship to our unique living planet. (Elon Musk can have lifeless Mars to himself—and good riddance!)
