So what should we tell our children? (1) Breathe, observe, and let go, since the present is all there is; and (2) grow gardens, grow community, and grow awareness—by learning, teaching, healing, and creating. And maybe—just maybe, a few of the wiser, more resilient, and more compassionate ones will survive long enough to sow the seeds of a Gaian culture in the smoldering ruins of the global market economy—a culture in a symbiotic, rather than parasitic, relationship to our unique living planet.
